RED BULL IS the energizer DRINK that is commercialized world-wide with its slogan: “It increases endurance, awakens the concentration capacity and the speed of reaction, offers more energy and improves the mood. All this can be found in a can of RED BULL, the power drink of the millennium.”

RED BULL has managed to arrive in almost 100 countries worldwide. The RED BULL logo is targeted at young people and sportsmen, two attractive segments that have been captivated by the stimulus that the drink provides.

It was created by Dietrich Mateschitz, an industrialist of Austrian origin who discovered the drink by chance. It happened during a business trip to Hong Kong , when he was working at a factory that manufactured toothbrushes.

The liquid, based on a formula that contained caffeine and taurine, caused a rage in that country. Imagine the grand success of this drink in Europe where the product still did not exist, besides it was a superb opportunity to become an entrepreneur.

BUT THE TRUTH ABOUT THIS DRINK IS ANOTHER THING

FRANCE and DENMARK have just prohibited it as a cocktail of death, due to its vitamin components mixed with GLUCURONOLACTONE ‘ – a highly-dangerous chemical, which was developed by the United States Department of Defense during the sixties to stimulate the moral of the troops based in VIETNAM, which acted like a hallucinogenic drug that calmed the stress of the war.

But their effects in the organism were so devastating, that it was discontinued, because of the high index of cases of migraines, cerebral tumors and diseases of the liver that was evident in the soldiers who consumed it. Read more..

Other Versions

Ever wondered what’s in a can of Redbull Energy drink? The small print lists a host of ingredients and among them is Glucuronolactone, an artificially manufactured stimulant developed in the early 60’s by the American Government.

Glucuronolactone was first used in the Vietnam conflict to boost morale amongst GI’s who were suffering from stress and fatigue, but was banned after a few years following several deaths and hundreds of cases involving anything from severe migraines to brain tumours in personnel prescribed the stimulant.

That was in 1973 and Glucuronolactone is still banned for commercial consumption in America this day. The bad news is that the substance never found it’s way to Europe in the early days and was therefore never banned by the EU community. An article in this months edition of the British Medical Journal has highlighted a growing number of cases reported by Doctors and Surgeons involving the very same side effects from the 70’s.

All of the patients examined were regular drinkers of RedBull and it is believed that the safety of Glucuronolactone is currently under review in at least three major European countries.

Please pass this on to any RedBull drinkers you know, and next time you get a headache after drinking the stuff, you’ll know why!

Analysis:

These warnings about health dangers of consuming the energy drink Red Bull have been circulating from a while now, that countries like France and Denmark have also banned it. Although there is a grain of truth about health effects of consuming excess of Red Bull, most of the claims are exaggerated and hoax. Let us analyze these claims one by one.

France and Denmark banned Red Bull

It is a fact that countries like France, Denmark and Norway have initially banned the energy drink Red Bull fearing health concerns of high levels of taurine and caffeine content. But in 2008, France ended this ban on Red Bull, implementing European regulations which said it should be put on sale in the absence of proof that it is harmful. Even in Kuwait, the drink was banned for persons under 16, but this was after the death of 2 under-16 persons who competed on who can drink more Red Bull.

Red Bull was created to stimulate the brains in people who are subjected to great physical force and in stress coma and never to be consumed like an innocent drink or soda pop.

No, Red Bull is created for everyone. Following these health controversies, Red Bull featured on its cans indicating about the high caffeine content, and recommended moderate consumption, also advising against consumption by pregnant women and children.

Red Bull’s vitamin components mixed with GLUCURONOLACTONE ‘ – a highly-dangerous chemical, which was developed by the United States Department of Defense during the sixties to stimulate the moral of the troops based in VIETNAM, which acted like a hallucinogenic drug that calmed the stress of the war.

This is an urban legend, which said Glucuronolactone was a war-era drug manufactured by the American government. Absence of any such article in British Medical Journal and for the fact that Glucuronolactone was NOT banned suggests that the brain tumor-related deaths are rumors.

Glucuronolactone is a naturally occurring chemical found in connective tissues like tendons, ligaments and cartilage of humans and animals, also found in many plant gums, and is rapidly absorbed and metabolized into non-toxic metabolites. Glucuronolactone is a popular ingredient in many energy drinks with claims that it detoxifies the body. European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has concluded that consumption of the standard levels of Glucuronolactone and also Taurine in energy drinks is not a safety concern. Interestingly, there also exist other false claims that Red Bull drink is formulated from Bull testicles, it is wild and addictive, and the people who consume it will test positive in drug tests.

Red Bull needs physical exercise afterwards.

Some studies suggest that Glucuronolactone used in Red Bull may help to increase strength and lean gains when used in conjunction with weight training, which probably gave rise to these claims. Red Bull is made for everyone other than children and pregnant women – that too in moderate consumption. And it is not a sports drink, but an energy drink.

It is Deadly to mix Red Bull with alcohol. Regular consumption of it triggers series of irreversible nervous and neuronal diseases.

People should understand that mixed beverages are pharmacologically distinct from just alcohol. A study shows evidence that caffeine changes alcohol’s effects on the body. Caffeine is a stimulant that can negate the sedative effect of alcohol, so it makes drinkers feel more impulsive and may lead them into drink more than they normally would. Note that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration put a ban on alcoholic energy drinks, and this was a result of multiple cases of alcohol poisoning and alcohol related blackouts.

Other then this concern, there are no direct proofs to confirm that consumption of Red Bull mixed with alcohol can be fatal, or can cause serious diseases.

Red Bull is Fatal

Yes, it is a fact that there were few death cases reported concerning around consumption of Red Bull, but none of them proved that it was the only and direct cause. Refer.

The Ingredients of Red Bull

Red Bull energy drink contains caffeine, taurine, glucuronolactone, B-group vitamins, sucrose, and glucose. It also comes sugar-free with the sweeteners acesulfame K and aspartame/sucralose. Yes, high amounts of Caffeine over a long period is shown to have bad effects on health, which is probably why the company warns people to drink Red Bull in moderation. The caffeine content in a 250 ml can of Red Bull is 80 mg, while Mayo Clinic suggests that daily intake of 200-300 mg of it is moderate for a healthy adult.

And for the good side of the energy drink, a study conducted by Psychology Department, University of the West of England, Bristol, UK suggested that consumption of Red Bull improved aerobic endurance and anaerobic performance. The people who consumed it in moderation were shown to improve subjective alertness and mental performance, which included choice reaction time, concentration and memory.

Conclusion

The high caffeine content in Red Bull and any other energy drink can be a health concern in some people, especially in children. Otherwise, just be sure to consume it moderately, and better to avoid mixing it with alcohol. Also note that energy drinks are NOT sports drinks and are not formulated for re-hydration. The people who exercise should also drink plenty of water along with these energy drinks.
