Liu Bolin is a 38 year old Chinese artist who has this special ability of painting himself into anything and turn invisible by merging with the background. This way he has been developing many startling pictures in urban and nature backdrops, disguising as invisible, and giving himself a look of human chameleon or ghost.

The Chinese artist stands silently in front of his favorite scenes around the world, and uses himself as a blank canvas. Then, with some help of an assistant artist, he paints himself seamlessly to merge with the background completely. Through his paintings, Liu Bolin wants to show how city surroundings affect people living in them.

He says that the inspiration behind all his work was a sense of not fitting in to this modern society, and is a silent protest against the ill treatment of artists. The artist says that the invisible photography of his work of cultural camouflage needs lot of art and patience, and at times he needs to spend up to 10 hours without any movement as he is being painted. Couple of his famous paintings include the one at Freedom Tower in New York, where the Twin Towers used to stand once, and another one blending himself into a wall paying tribute to the people who lost their lives in 9/11 attacks. You can find some of the interesting invisible pictures of this man in the image section below. You can also see his extensive cultural camouflage paint work on ‘ekfineart’ platform in the reference section. The video above shows the painting procedure of this invisible Chinese artist. Liu Bolin briefs about his invisible paintings saying:

“I am standing, but there is a silent protest, the protest against the environment for the survival, the protest against the state.”

These are real and amazing photographs, an inspiring art as well.

Hoax or Fact:
