President Obama has redesigned a new legal flag to replace the current US flag.
An article on Weekly World News, which said:
President Obama has redesigned the American flag and ordered it flown from all government buildings starting on November 7th, 2012.
Hoax or Fact:
The message claims that the US President, Barack Obama has redesigned a new legal American flag to replace the existing one. It is partly fact.
The origin of the message relates to the recent Presidential re-election campaign of Barack Obama, when in September 2012, his official campaign website came up with a limited sale of a US flag poster - a stylized version of the current US flag, where the field of stars was replaced by Obama's election campaign logo. President Obama also mentioned about it on his Twitter account, saying:
" A poster to say there are no red states or blue states, only the United States: OFA.BO/gfHgXM "
Obama's election campaign put this flag for a limited sale, priced at $35 per copy. There was also another version of this flag poster designed in the shape of an outline of USA. You can see it in the image section below, followed by the current, official US flag. This redesign of US flag, removing the 50 stars (which depicted the 50 states in USA) and keeping it for public sale gave rise to lot of criticism, and people considered it offensive.
However, there are no credible reports to say that Obama, or his re-election campaign wanted to replace the current US flag with this new design. This new flag poster was not flown in from any government buildings from November 7, 2012. And these new designs were not done by President Obama, but by artists Ross Bruggink and Dan Olson. After putting up for four days, the sale of these modified American flag posters was no longer available in Obama's campaign website. Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion believed that it is not a flag, but a "political art”.
