Hoax or Fact:

Hoax.

Analysis:

The circulating message in question claims to be coming from an employee of Gleneagles Hospital Limited and he warns the public about free samples of lotions, perfumes, diapers etc. sent in mail, saying that seven women who have smelled those poisonous samples are now admitted and treated in their hospital. It is not a fact.

These messages started spreading widely causing panic among people, however, the Gleneagles Hospital based in Kuala Lumpur came up to clear the buzz. The hospital's Public Relations and Communications manager Adeline Abdul Ghani explained that the email containing their hospital's name and warning people about poisonous samples in mail was a hoax and that it did not originate from their hospital staff. Adeline also pointed out that their company name was registered as Gleneagles Hospital (Kuala Lumpur) Sdn Bhd and was never known as Gleneagles Hospital Limited as mentioned in the email. They explained the same even on their Facebook page, which you can read here.

The origin of these messages appears to be the hoax email messages that were circulating since November 2001, post the rash of anthrax mailings that occurred for few weeks after the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks in United States. Even then there were no credible reports of any such poisonous perfume samples being sent through the mail. So there is nothing to panic as such, but yes, as a matter of safety, it's always wise to be cautious with strange looking products you receive in your mail.
