Singer Justin Bieber has been hospitalized with the Ebola Virus.
Hoax or Fact:
The message that went viral online said singer Justin Bieber has been hospitalized with the Ebola Virus. No, it is not a fact.
Source of Claim
The claim originated from an article published in website DailyCurrant.com on 14 Aug. 2014. As per the article, local reports said that Justin Bieber contracted the Ebola disease while visiting a fan with cancer at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, where two American Ebola patients were being treated. People who believed in this story started sharing links and excerpts from the article online, which is how it went viral.
The fact of the matter is that The Daily Currant is a satirical online publication, where the stories published are purely fictional. The way in which the present story is portrayed is conclusive of same. It is said that when Bieber visited the cancer patients, he walked past the isolated ward where the Ebola patients were supposedly treated. Even when the hospital administrator warned Bieber not to go in there, he supposedly went in secretly and got locked up for an hour.
The picture of Justin Bieber sleeping on a hospital bed (with his headset) that is used with the story was taken back in March 2013, when he was reportedly hospitalized for tiredness after suffering breathing difficulties on stage at London's O2 Arena.
So Justin Bieber did not contract the Ebola disease while visiting any fan with cancer, the claim originated from a satirical publication.
Although there's major concern about Ebola virus disease (EVD) worldwide, so far serious Ebola cases have only shown up in Central and West Africa. You can learn everything about Ebola from the website of World Health Organization.
