Analysis:

This is a video that has been making the rounds of Internet since many years, and claims to show a Zombie attack where a man is ripped apart and eaten alive by them. (Warning: The video may appear disturbing for some people).

Various Claims

The video comes with various stories, some claiming it as a Russian police helicopter night vision recording of a real Zombie attack on a Russian soldier, some saying it is a man chased and ripped apart by the natives.

The footage supposedly shows Russian police surveilling a suspect after a reported shooting, but is being chased by several unarmed men, who later catch him, tear him apart and run off with the bits. Thankfully, that’s not the case!

Facts about the Video

The video first appeared online in early 2007 on YouTube, some versions of which also mentioned the PC shooter game S.T.A.L.K.E.R in the description. The video is too good to be a real zombie attack – recorded from a helicopter. It is in fact a viral marketing video, a part of promoting the S.T.A.L.K.E.R video game ‘Shadow of Chernobyl‘.

The fake zombie attack video trailer was developed by GSC Game World and published by the company THQ in early 2007. You can watch a similar trailer on GameTrailers.com, and the related ‘Zombie’ game videos on Google search.

The Game & Plot

The acronym “S.T.A.L.K.E.R.” stands for Scavengers Trespassers Adventurers Loners Killers Explorers Robbers, and all the games take place in “The Zone”. From Wikia description of the game S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl:

In Shadow of Chernobyl, the player assumes the identity of an amnesiac “Stalker,” an illegal explorer/artifact scavenger in “The Zone,” referred to as “Marked One.” “The Zone” is the location of an alternate-reality version of the Chernobyl Power Plant after a second, fictitious explosion that contaminated the surrounding area with radiation and caused strange, otherworldly changes to the local flora and fauna, as well as to the laws of physics.

The game plot has several stories that are often related to Zombies, Retards, Mutants and otherworldly characters. The same concept is used (in extreme way) in the viral marketing video of the game.

Domain URL in the Video

The video of Zombie attack in Russia created lot of buzz online. Some people believed that the domain “www.zonesecurity.ru” mentioned at the end of the video suggests that the video is developed by that website, which as of this writing, is a Russian network security company. It is not so. As you can see in archive, the domain zonesecurity.ru redirected to the official PC video game website of S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl back in March 2007. Perhaps the domain in the name of “Zone Security” was used in the video for this redirection purpose.

To Conclude

The video claiming to show a Russian soldier being chased, torn apart and eaten alive by zombies is not real; it is a part of promotion of the shooting video game S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl back in 2007. This story is similar to another video in past that claimed to show a real life Teleportation caught on camera in Russia.
