Is this proof that mermaids really do exist?
Unbelievable Mermaid Sighting in Kiryat Yam,Israel
Hoax or Fact:
Circulating videos, also from Animal Planet, claim to show two men accidentally capturing a real mermaid on their cam. Although the video appears real and claims to show a real mermaid caught on camera, the story is a hoax. The message is in fact a promotional video for one of the fictional shows of Animal Planet.
The video shown is a part of Animal Planet special TV show on Mermaids which was premiered in 2012. It was a science fiction based on some real events and scientific theory, which debunked Mermaids. The video was titled 'Mermaid Sighting in Kiryat Yam' and had a description saying:
"Strange footage shot by a young boy shows him and his friend examining the body of something that has washed up on shore. It comes alive and both boys flee... but what was it? Tune in for the world premiere of Mermaids: The Body Found.."
In 2013, the video was again promoted to advertise a sequel to the same program on Animal Planet. It had a description saying:
"On May 26 (2013), everything you know about the ocean will change. Watch an encore presentation of Mermaids: The Body Found at 8PM E/P, followed by an exclusive interview at 10PM E/P.."
Therefore, the video is not real, the message is a hoax, and a promotional video of Animal Planet TV show on Mermaids. But interestingly, this hoax video, a sequel to the last year hoax has made the documentary show about Mermaids the most-watched telecast in Animal Planet’s history.
As far as the existence of mermaids is concerned, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) maintains that no evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found. However, there have been many hoax stories around existence of these mermaids, like the Dead Mermaid at Balambangan Island and Mermaid caught on Tape Swimming in Sydney.
