About Video

The video in question was uploaded to YouTube on 27 Aug. 2014, entitled ‘Illinois ALS Ice Bucket Fail: Challenge Goes Horribly Wrong‘. It was shared by Ryan Pflederer on his Facebook account, as an example of why using heavy equipment for Ice Bucket Challenge can be deadly. The story was shared on Facebook page of Storyful, where it garnered thousands of shares, and it also took to some news outlets questioning whether the incident is real or staged.

Flaws Show Video is Staged

Firstly, it is questionable why would someone share a video like this where he is seriously injured. When you watch what appears like a palm tree in the background, at around 0:32 seconds timeframe, just before the man gets hit by the bucket, you can see unusual movement of the tree clearly suggesting the video is edited. Moreover, note the way the man falls, without expressing any kind of shock, as if he is ready to collapse.

Ryan Pflederer shared the video on Facebook page of News 25 TV Channel, wherein, responding to a commenter who calls the video fake, Ryan confirms that he is simply promoting his job as a realtor in the video. The information provided in his Facebook account says Ryan Pflederer is a broker realtor at Burrell American Dream Team, and certainly, the present video portraying a horrible accident in Ice Bucket Challenge is a staged one, only meant to promote himself as a realtor!
