Other Versions

Dr Lyall's Fairy in jar.

Hoax or Fact:

Hoax.

Analysis:

A picture supposedly showing a weird, unidentified specimen, or a Fairy in jar collected by David Lyall in Glenshee, Scotland has been circulating lately through Image sharing and social networking websites. In fact, few other pictures of the specimen have also been online since few years. The 'conspiracy image' is not what it is said to be.

The picture(s) in question is not a Fairy or some unidentified specimen; it is the work of Jacob Petersson, an artist and propmaker from Sweden. Someone took the original, colored picture of the 'fairy in jar,' turned it into black & white and attached the aforementioned stories to it (see second picture in Image Gallery). Full picture of the art work can be seen on a deviantart.com page, and few other pictures of similar props of weird creatures can be seen in artist Jacob Petersson's blog curiomira.blogspot.fr. The current picture was published on 6 June 2009 with similar title mentioned in the story.

So the stories saying that the picture(s) show an unidentified specimen collected by David Lyall in Scotland are hoaxes that perhaps may also have been misinterpreted from the title and description of the artwork. You can read similar stories of misinterpreted artwork in Related Stories section below. Like we always say, do not believe in everything you see and read online.
