Hoax or Fact:
A story in circulation online in various versions claims that a 19-year-old woman murdered her college roommate for sending too many Candy Crush requests. Thankfully, the story is not a fact.
As told in the stories, there are no credible reports of any such murder to have taken place. The claims actually originated from an 8 March 2016 article on The Valley Report website thevalleyreport.com. According to the article, the 19-year-old woman in Boston reportedly got frustrated by the amount of invites received for the popular Facebook game Candy Crush and beat her roommate to death with an industrial sized bag of jelly beans. She was supposedly complaining that her battery was constantly dying from notifications from the girl. It is also said that the police issued a warning to people sending out the invites on Facebook. However, the fact of the matter being, the website Valley Report publishes some stories that are exaggerated, embellished or an outright work of fiction - as mentioned in their Disclaimer information shown below. The same website earlier published a hoax story saying a woman stabbed her boyfriend for not liking her newest Instagram selfie quickly enough.

Notably, many similar stories have circulated in the past, like saying 'Woman Shot In Both Legs For Sending “ Too Many ” Game Invites On Facebook'. Some stories also mentioned Farmville, another popular game on Facebook, like a 'Woman Murdered After Sending Repeated FarmVille Invitations Via Facebook'. Again, all those hoax stories originated from fake news or satirical publications.
