These stories come with the Amazon logo and ask you to follow simple steps to redeem your $200 gift card. They have been seen in various websites like newcoupons.pw, gcoupons.org and gcshop.org/amazon/. To convince users, it is said that Amazon is giving away the free gift cards in exchange of your posting and sharing their promotional messages on Facebook. What is said, however, is not a fact! The webpages do not come with genuine claims. You can notice that the “Free Gift Card” counter in the webpage(s) always starts at a certain number and then begins counting down. Moreover, ScamAdviser.com gave a 'Low Trust Rating' and 'High Risk' of use to all 3 websites mentioned above (see Image Gallery).
Amazon is not giving away free $200 gift cards to all Facebook users, all these messages are simply marketing gimmicks - hoaxes and scams. Once the readers click the links and follow the instructions, they will be directed into completing surveys that may also extract their personal information like email addresses, dates of birth, telephone numbers and credit card numbers. Visiting the links in the messages may also harm your computer and others when you pass on the message. So do not click through such links, and do not share them. If you have done so, it’s better to delete the posts and inform everyone else the same.
Similar scams have been around since few years, as scammers come with different variations, often using multiple domains. So like we always say, do not believe in everything you see online.
