Hoax or Fact:
Hoax and Scam.
(Warning: Graphic pictures in this article)
A story doing rounds on Facebook claims to show a shocking video saying you will never use any Garnier products after watching it. The thumbnail image of the said video carries a disturbing picture of what appears like weird and alarming infection on a man's shoulder. As a matter of fact, earlier versions of the story carrying the same thumbnail picture mentioned names of other brand shampoos like Head & Shoulders, Nivea and Dove, along with other disturbing pictures. The claims, however, are a part of survey scams doing rounds on Facebook, and are therefore hoaxes.
As we tested to click on the story on Facebook with the aforementioned claim, we were taken to another website that said the purported video is restricted and we have to share it on Facebook before we can see it. After clicking the share button, we were directed to yet another website that asked to complete some offers as a part of age verification (see pictures in Image Gallery). As you can see from the Related Stories section below, many such past stories on Facebook claiming to show 'disturbing' or 'shocking' videos were in fact survey scams, and no such videos existed. Same is the case with the current story as well; there won't be any shocking video as claimed. And not just survey scams, the unsuspecting users can also be duped into revealing their personal information and downloading malware onto their computers. As far as the disturbing picture is concerned, it is also not real, and is actually a photoshop of a lotus seed pod on a man's shoulder. A similar disturbing picture circulated online in the past claiming to show worms in human breast (rash).
