Analysis:

A video shared heavily online claims to show an insane feat; World’s First Wireless Bungee Jump with the help of Magnets. Because it is presented as an experiment ‘sponsored’ by the IKEA group, where a team of scientists worked to make the world’s first wireless bungee jump possible with the help of strong electromagnetic field, many viewers thought it could be a fact. It is not.

The video originated in June 2015 from official IKEA Belgium YouTube channel, and came with a description saying ‘Science meets extreme sports to create the first wireless bungee jump‘. Shown in the video is a bungee jumper wearing a magnetic suit, without any wires attached, taking a jump onto the ground over an electro-magnetic field, because of which he manages to fly back a little into the air without banging onto the ground. Although theory described in the video sounds believable, as of this writing, there is no such technology to make wireless bungee jump feasible. The video coming from IKEA is in fact a campaign to promote its wireless phone charging collection, as can be understood from the titles at the end of the video saying “Wireless bungee jumping. One day.” followed by “Wireless charging. Today.” The IKEA TV Commercial titled “The first wireless bungee jump” was done by DDB Brussels, Rococo in Belgium. In past, a similar story spreading online said a Man jumped out of Airplane without Parachute onto Trampoline; it was a promotional advertisement for a Trampoline Park.
