The aforementioned stories, in various versions and languages, surface on internet claiming that popular Hollywood celebrity actress Angeline Jolie has accepted Islam religion and converted into a Muslim. There are also the messages stating Angelina Jolie’s husband Brad Pitt too converted to Islam. No, the claims as such are not facts.

The stories saying Angelina Jolie has converted to Islam are not new on internet. In fact. they have been around for some years now. The actress frequently visits Pakistan and other countries around the world for her globe-trotting humanitarian work with refugees. In Cambodia in 2001, when Angelina Jolie was shooting for her movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, she became aware of the suffering of the people in that war-ravaged country. Later that year Angelina Jolie contacted the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and thus became the Goodwill Ambassador of the organization. When she visits Pakistan she frequently wears the local traditional Islamic dress, because of which perhaps there have been speculations – more of it online – about Angelina Jolie converting to Islam.

In November 2015 Headline24 Hindi website headline24.in seems to have published an article saying Angelina Jolie has converted to Islam. The story – which was later taken down – quickly appeared on various Islam based Facebook pages and groups, also on Twitter and WhatsApp. There also came the stories in Hindi saying many celebrities are leaving their religion and accepting Islam. While some celebrities like Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, Janet Jackson, A.R. Rahman and Ice Cube have in fact converted to Islam in the past, the internet stories saying many celebrities are leaving their religion and converting to Islam are not facts. And of course, the claim in question about Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt converting to Islam is most certainly a hoax.
