Analysis:
Starting since early December 2016 the story that Bollywood Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has Committed Suicide went viral on free messaging service WhatsApp and other social media sites. The ghastly news of Aishwarya Rai committing suicide is said to happen due to marital discord, allegedly owing to her steamy scenes in the Hindi movie Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. It is said that her in-laws, the Bachchans were ill-treating Aishwarya because of which she took an overdose of tranquillisers. Some reports even went on to add that her alleged suicide attempt and subsequent death was hushed up by the Bachchan family. The stories are all baseless and hoaxes; Aishwarya Rai did not commit any suicide, she is very much alive.
Origin of Story & Actual Facts
On 2 December 2016 a website by name Outlook Pakistan, outlookpakistan.com published an article saying Aishwarya Rai has attempted Suicide in her in-laws home for the aforementioned family disputes and has just survived. It is said that Media reports ‘claim’ that Aishwarya took heavy dose of tranquillizers and wanted to end her life. It is also said that Bachchan family did not take Aishwarya to the hospital and called the doctor for treatment at their home, so as to keep the incident secret. The doctors allegedly washed away her stomach and were not allowed to reveal the details.
The suicide-death stories on social media sites and the suicide attempt article on website Outlook Pakistan created abuzz that the well known Bollywood actress and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai has committed suicide. There were certain videos claiming same, and also a fake picture of a person lying bruised in a hospital bed. However, none of the stories cite any reliable sources.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is perfectly fine; the actress was present at fashion designer Manish Malhotra’s 50th birthday on 4 December 2016. Moreover, in November 2016, addressing a gathering at the inauguration of 22nd Kolkata International Film Festival, Aishwarya’s father-in-law Mr. Amitabh Bachchan said he was glad the character of Saba in the film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, turned the tables on men.
So the stories saying Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has committed Suicide over family discord are simply fake news and hoaxes. In past even her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan and other Bollywood celebrities like Katrina Kaif, Dev Anand, Shashi Kapoor and Kader Khan were declared dead on social media.
