A video doing rounds online purports to show legendary singer Mohd Rafi’s Daughter Musthafa Parvez Singing Lord Krishna Songs in her splendid voice. Accompanying messages on social media and video sharing platforms claim she is a devotee of Krishna. No, the claims are not true – the woman singing in the video is not Mohd Rafi’s daughter.
Claims about Mohd Rafi’s Daughter Singing Krishna Songs
The claims in question are doing rounds on WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook among others. The video went viral during Shri Krishna Janmashtami festival on 24th August 2019. These claims, however, are not new and appeared previously in 2018 also. Some other versions said the woman singing in the video is granddaughter or great granddaughter of the legendary Hindi singer Mohammed Rafi.
The fact of the matter is – the video is an old one from at least 2013 showing Hindu devotional song of Krishna ‘Hari sundar nand mukunda‘. More importantly, the woman singing in the video is not Mohd Rafi’s daughter. She is in fact Gitanjali Rai, a teacher, ghazal-devotional singer and motivational speaker based out of Pune, Maharashtra according to her website information. Gitanjali Rai is associated with Art of Living Foundation, but is in no way related to singer Mohammed Rafi.
Mohammed Rafi had four sons and three daughters from his two marriages – his daughters’ names are Nasreen, Yasmin and Parveen. So, the messages claiming to show Mohd Rafi’s daughter Musthafa Parvez singing Lord Krishna’s song are hoaxes.

Who will dispute the fact that music runs in the genes.
Again, the person in the video is not Mohd. Rafi’s son. He is in fact singer Mohammed Aslam, best known for his foot-tapping tracks Masti Ki Paathshaala and Khalbali, from Rang De Basanti movie. He is also popular for his stage shows titled ‘Aslam Nite’, a music show dedicated to the singer Mohammed Rafi.
