Fact Check:
The stories shared heavily on social media purport to show World Record holder Pranav Dhanawade Rejected Arjun Tendulkar Selected in Under-16 Indian Cricket Team. Despite world record knock of 1009 runs, Arjun is allegedly selected over Pranav just because he is Sachin Tendulkar’s son. Pictures of both the young cricketers and Sachin Tendulkar were also shared on social media suggesting – “Eklavya” once again lost to “Arjun”. As explained below, the claims are not true.

About Pranav Dhanawade’s World Record
In Jan 2016, 15-year-old Mumbai teenage cricketer Pranav Dhanawade became the first batsman ever to reach four figure score. In a single innings facing 323 balls, he scored a massive 1009 runs, which included 129 fours and 59 sixes. The smashing unbeaten world record knock happened in an inter-school tournament at the Union Cricket Academy ground in Kalyan, Maharashtra. Pranav’s record score helped his school declare on 1465/3, which also happened to be a record for the highest ever team score. Pranav Dhanawade broke the 117-year-old record for the most runs scored in an innings held by AEJ Collins. Back in 1899, in a club match in England, Collins smashed an unbeaten 628. Even the Dhanawade’s school broke the previous international record of Victoria’s 1,107 made in 1926.

As suggested in the message, Pranav Dhanawade is indeed the son of an autorickshaw driver Prashant Dhanawade. The hard-hitting wicket-keeper batsman started playing cricket from age five. Nonetheless, after the record-breaking innings, Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar congratulated Dhanawade on Twitter:
Congrats #PranavDhanawade on being the first ever to score 1000 runs in an innings. Well done and work hard. You need to scale new peaks!

Was Pranav Dhanawade Rejected Arjun Tendulkar Selected?
Firstly, Arjun Tendulkar was not selected for Indian Cricket Team; it was actually Under-16 West Zone squad. Once the story of ‘injustice’ became popular on social media, Pranav’s father Prashant Dhanawade quashed the claims talking to Firstpost website firstpost.com. Pranav was not a part of the Mumbai squad, so he was not eligible to enter the West Zone squad. Moreover, the selections for West Zone happened before Pranav Dhanawade made the world record runs. Mumbai side was picked by the time, and had also played few games. Arjun Tendulkar, an all-rounder, was selected earlier, based on his performance in Payyade Trophy in Nov 2015. He made a century in one match and also took 4 wickets.

So, the claim that Arjun Tendulkar was selected over Pranav Dhanawade simply because he is Sachin Tendulkar’s son is clearly a hoax.
