Shock claim MI5 Agent John Hopkins Admits he Murdered Princess Diana in Deathbed Confession

Fact Check:

A ‘shocking’ story in circulation since few years claims a Retired MI5 Agent Confesses on Deathbed Saying He Killed Princess Diana because she knew secrets of Royalty. It says the MI5 Agent John Hopkins admitting he murdered Princess Diana. No, the claims are not true.

Has an MI5 Agent Killed Princess Diana?

MI5 (Military Intelligence, Section 5) is United Kingdom’s domestic counter-intelligence and security agency. The claims in question originated from a June 2017 article published on Your News Wire website yournewswire.com with the same title. According to it, 80-year-old retired MI5 agent, John Hopkins revealed the ‘murder’ of Princess Diana among some series of deathbed confessions after he was released from hospital in London. Allegedly, Princess Diana is the only female he ever assassinated and did it at the order of Royal Family themselves. The article says she knew too many Royal secrets and was placing the British Crown at risk.

Death of Princess Diana

Diana, the Princess of Wales (1 July 1961 – 31 August 1997) was a member of the British royal family. She died on 31 August 1997, in a car crash in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris while the driver was fleeing the paparazzi. The crash also resulted in the deaths of her companion Dodi Fayed and the driver, Henri Paul.

Coming back to the origin of story, some online outlets picked up the ‘news’ on Your News Wire and some videos also came out of it. Despite the claims, the article of ‘deathbed confession’ does not cite any credible source of information. There are no such reports about it. The accompanying photograph in fact shows an 87-year-old war veteran getting treatment in Lismore Base Hospital of Australia in April 2010. Notably, Your News Wire website deleted the article later on. Moreover, the website is not a reliable source of information. In past it has published hoax stories like Queen Elizabeth Suspends Prince Harry and Markle’s Wedding.

So, the aforementioned factors clearly indicate the ‘shocking’ claims around Princess Diana’s death are baseless hoaxes. No such MI5 Agent confessed on deathbed saying he killed the People’s Princess, who in fact died in a car crash.

Hoax or Fact:

Hoax.
