Analysis:
Rapidly circulating messages on Facebook and other social networking platforms claim that a 60-year old woman named Beulah Montgomery shot and killed two teen attackers who punched her in a ‘Knock Out’ game. It does not appear so.
The ‘Knock Out’ game, termed as “point-em-out, knock-em-out” has been in news quite a lot, where some teenagers are reported playing this wild game of punching down a random passerby — just for the sake of fun. The source of the present claim originates from a ‘news’ article on AwfBase website (news.awfbase.com) with a similar title that was published on 18 November 2013. With more than half-a-million Facebook “Likes”, the message from the article spread like wildfire. However, AwfBase appears to be a site and forum where many stories are shared, some appearing legitimate and some semi-legitimate. There is no website information or disclaimer. Moreover, there are certain aspects in the article that question its validity.

The writer of the article is listed simply as ‘Guy’. Only the name of the ‘victim’ is mentioned, the date of the incident, location and other information is absent. Most of all, the Knock Out shoot incident is not reported by any mainstream media. More recently, on 25 November 2013, a satirical news website NationalReport.net published a similar fictitious article saying a 93 year old grandma killed a thug in ‘Knock Out’ game. So considering all these aspects, the messages saying a 60 year old woman shot 2 teenagers trying to play knock out game with her are certainly hoax. Sharing violent hoax messages like this is like encouraging violence over violence.

Hoax or Fact:
Hoax.
