The drug now being used by rapists at parties to rape and sterilize their victims.

Messages circulating in various versions warn girls and women about a supposedly new and dangerous date rape drug called Progesterex. It is said that Progesterex can result in loss of self-defense, memory and even permanent sterilization of the rape victim. Not really!
What are Date Rape Drugs
Date rape drugs are powerful and dangerous drugs that are used to assist sexual assault – both in females and males. These drugs generally do not have any color, smell, or taste, and can be easily slipped into your drink without your knowledge. The date rape drugs can make the victim weak and confused — or even pass out — so that he/she becomes incapable of self-defense, and they might not even remember what happened to them while they were drugged.
Note that these drugs can also be used to help people commit other crimes, like robbery and physical assault. The term “date rape” can also be misleading, because the person who commits the crime need not be dating the victim, it could rather be an acquaintance or a stranger.
Facts about Progesterex
These warning messages about a so called new and dangerous date rape drug Progesterex have been circulating since at least 1999, through emails and other online platforms. However, no such drug called Progesterex with the aforementioned properties exists, and no such crime incidents are ever documented. Again, there is no such drug used for sterilizing horses. Sterilization of male horses is generally performed surgically, while mares are usually left unaltered. Sometimes oral medication is given to mares to temporarily prevent them from coming into heat.
Progesterex is a fictitious date rape drug that started as a part of a hoax, most certainly intended to scare people. Therefore, the above messages need not be shared, as it can only spread false fears among people.
Dangers of Date Rape Drugs
Having said that Progesterex warnings are hoax, there do exist certain date rape drugs to assist sexual assault, as mentioned above. Rohypnol, which is referenced in the story, does exist and has the reputation of being used as a date rape drug. Two other common date rape drugs are GHB, which is short for gamma hydroxybutyric acid and Ketamine. They are also known by many other names, which you can read in detail from the reference section below. These date rape drugs are also called “club drugs” because they are generally used at dance clubs, concerts, and rave parties.
Note that some of these date rape drugs are legal when lawfully used for medical purposes, like for example, as an anesthetic.
How to Avoid being Drugged
Both males and females have to be careful, not to get drugged with these date rape drugs. Mentioned below are few safety measures for the same:
