About the Doctor Suicide Blaming AAP MLA

On 18th April 2020, a 52-year-old Ayurvedic doctor Rajendra Singh appeared hanging from a rope on the roof of his house in South Delhi. A suicide note recovered from his house stated AAP MLA Prakash Jarwal and his aide Kapil Nagar were responsible for his death. Police sent his body to AIIMS for postmortem.

Dr. Rajendra Singh ran a clinic in Durga Vihar and was also in business of water supply with the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) leasing out water tankers since 2007, son of the deceased said. In his suicide note, Rajendra Singh blamed Prakash Jarwal and his aide Kapil Nagar of harassment. He said it provoked him to take such a radical decision of committing suicide. His son Hemant submitted phone recordings of threatening calls to police. He explained his father’s distress suffering from monetary loss from past few months.

The family said the losses were because MLA Prakash Jarwal was demanding money from the doctor. When he failed to pay the money on time, Jarwal allegedly got his payments towards supplying water stalled. Hemant said Kapil Nagar visited his father the day before his death. The family said all this forced him to take the extreme step of committing suicide.
