Fact Check:

Certain stories doing rounds online mention about Dog Meat Sale Allowed at a Los Angeles restaurant. According to few versions, the restaurant Puchow de Manila Eatery and Fine Dining is given the permission to consume and sell dog meat. It is said that the restaurant is also allowed to slaughter up to three dogs per day, adding they must be put down humanely. So, let us check if the animal cruelty is true or not.

Dog Meat Sale Allowed in Los Angeles?

The story in question is not new; it surfaced online in various forms since at least 2014. However, most of them are either satirical publications or clickbait stories. The picture of dead dogs hanging at a butcher shop appeared in a June 2014 article on The New York Times blog sinosphere.blogs.nytimes.com.  Actually, the blog reported a dog meat festival in China and the post was titled “City Aims to Play Down Its Dog Meat Festival“.

In Feb 2018, The Washington Post website washingtonpost.com reported the restaurant ‘Puchow de Manila Eatery and Fine Dining’ does not exist, as per Health officials. In fact, the Los Angeles County Health Department does not have any record of such restaurant. Moreover, in California, the sale of dog meat for human consumption is illegal.

To conclude, the claim that an American Restaurant is Granted Permission to Sell Dog Meat in Los Angeles is a Hoax. Like we always say, not every ‘catchy headline’ that appears online is true. Before you believe in something, it is wise to check its authenticity.

Hoax or Fact:
