Fact Check:
A disturbing video is doing rounds online claiming to show a Man thrashing two traffic cops for issuing a huge challan. It also suggests common people are not happy with the implementation of the new Motor Vehicles Act from July 2019, increasing traffic penalties. Allegedly, the video shows a big fight and ruckus after issuance of challan. Although the video is real, the associated claims are not true.
Allegedly Drunken Man Thrashes the Traffic Cops
The video shows a man hitting one traffic policeman on head with a pottery object beside road and throwing another policeman into the road. The video and the aforementioned claims are doing rounds on WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter among other social platforms. However, the incident is not a recent one from September 2019.
The unfortunate incident took place in Devangere, Karnataka back in October 2018 and did not happen after implementation of the new Motor Vehicles Act. Rudrappa, a lawyer was riding his motorcycle when the traffic cops suspected he was drunk and asked him to stop. The man got angry at this and thrashes the two traffic cops as the incident was caught on cell phones. One of the cops in fact suffered a deep cut on forehead. The lawyer was arrested and a case registered for assaulting cops on duty.
