Certain messages in circulation on social media claim some media outlets misreported a Heinous Crime from Hyderabad’s Malakpet as – Auto Driver Rapes Minor Girl, Arrested. The incident allegedly involved AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen) Party local leader Shakeel Khan and the victim minor is a Dalit girl. So, let us examine in detail the incident and the said misreports on it.

Auto Driver Rapes Minor Girl?

One version of the message shared on Facebook page ‘Tiger Raja Singh Fan Club‘ suggested The Times of India misreported the same, adding they do not have courage to mention the AIMIM party name. Likewise, we did not find the report on The Times of India website or on its social pages Facebook and Twitter. But a Facebook user commented he read the Times of India report in contrast to the news circulated on social media. As a matter of fact, on the day of the arrest 6th May 2020, many online news outlets reported same – Auto Driver Rapes Minor Girl, Arrested – under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Notably, some of them cited PTI as source of information.

Next day on 7th May 2020, The Hans India reported Shakeel Khan as a local politician who threatened and assaulted the minor Schedule Caste Dalit girl over a period of time. Police arrested him after the girl approached the police along with her relative and filed a complaint. Police registered the case adding other sections including prevention of atrocities on SC and ST Act. The accused was sent to judicial remand after he was produced in court. The accused is an active AIMIM worker of Malakpet constituency taking part in party activities at division level, according to a report on the The Siasat Daily.
