Analysis:

A story shared widely on social media sites warns that Dog meat has been found Mixed with Biryani in Shah Ghouse Hotel and Restaurant located at Raidurgum in Hyderabad (India), and that Food Inspectors have Collected Samples. Some versions of the stories also said the Owner of the Shah Ghouse hotel was arrested for mixing dog meat in mutton dishes. As detailed below, the claims as such are mixture of hoax and facts.

According to ABN Telugu news video published on 13 December 2016, it is learnt that a person approached Raidurgum Police Station to complain about dog meat usage in Mutton dishes of the Shah Ghouse hotel and restaurant at Raidurgum, but he was sent away by the police, asking him to approach the food inspectors. The person allegedly started posting the messages on WhatsApp and social media sites, and after it created abuzz, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) health officers and food inspectors inspected the hotel, collected food samples and sent them for lab tests. The officials found some unstamped meat in the Shah Ghouse hotel premises, i.e meat procured from private sources, which is violation of rules. For this, GHMC sent notice to the Shah Ghouse hotel that they should only buy sealed meat from GHMC slaughter house. As of this writing, the lab tests of the food samples are not available, but Cyberabad police did not register any case against the hotel, saying that allegations of using dog meat were false. And contrary to some stories, the owner of the Owner of the Shah Ghouse hotel was not arrested. Note, some unrelated pictures allegedly showing dog meat use also circulated on social media sites.

On the other hand, Shah Ghouse is an old chain of restaurants, quite popular, and the owners say the allegations of mixing Dog meat in their non-vegetarian dishes is a conspiracy of their business rivals to defame the hotel. The hotel management lodged a complaint with Cyberabad Police seeking action against TV channels that aired the dog meat story.
