Hot Coconut Water Kills Cancer Cells?
The strange cancer remedy is doing rounds online through WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter among others. They in fact suggest adding hot water to 2-3 thin coconut flakes in a cup will make ‘Alkaline water’. Likewise, they claim it releases anti-cancer substance effective in destroying cancer cells of all types without affecting healthy cells. As a matter of fact, some do suggest alkaline water prevents or treats cancer. However, as explained in our article, drinking alkaline water is no magic solution to preventing or treating cancer – a group of complex diseases.
Coconut water contains easily digested carbohydrates in the form of sugar and electrolytes and has definite health benefits. It is in fact super hydrating, helps in cleaning your body and boosting immunity. However, there is no scientific evidence to suggest drinking hot coconut water kills cancer cells.

On the other hand, Dr. Rajendra Achyut Badwe is a Surgical Oncologist, who also worked for Tata Memorial Hospital (TMC) in Mumbai as the Head of the Department. After the cancer cure claims became viral on social media, India’s premier cancer care hospital, Tata Memorial Centre issued a rebuttal statement earlier in May 2019. They clarified the message was unscientific and never uttered by their Director Rajendra Achyut Badwe. “There is no data to suggest that hot coconut water can provide cures for any type of cancer. Public are requested not to be misinformed by such false and harmful messages sent on social media,” read a statement issued by the TMC’s director Dr. Rajendra Badwe.

To conclude, the messages claiming drinking hot coconut water kills cancer cells of all types are hoaxes. Cancer specialists express concern saying many patients get misled by such fake messages and by the time they visit the doctors, their cancers become advanced.
