Story:

Lead Developer Of HPV Vaccines Comes Clean, Warns Parents & Young Girls It’s All A Giant Deadly Scam. Dr. Diane Harper was the lead researcher in the development of the human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccines, Gardasil™ and Cervarix™. She is now the latest in a long string of experts who are pressing the red alert button on the devastating consequences and irrelevancy of these vaccines. Dr. Harper made her surprising confession at the 4th International Converence on Vaccination which took place in Reston, Virginia. Her speech, which was originally intended to promote the benefits of the vaccines, took a 180-degree turn when she chose instead to clean her conscience about the deadly vaccines so she “could sleep at night”.

Facts Analysis:

These health warnings, purportedly from a lead researcher in the development of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccines Dr. Diane Harper, have been circulating since her addressal in a conference in 2009. Allegedly, Diane Harper has come clean to say the HPV vaccines Gardasil and Cervarix have adverse effects, do not work, are dangerous, and were not tested. The claims are mixture of hoax and facts.

The article is based on a related article published in Life Wise, which again does not mention actual facts. Dr. Diane Harper was NOT the lead researcher in the development of HPV vaccines Gardasil and Cervarix. She was in fact the principal investigator of the clinical trials of those vaccines against HPV. Her statements in question were addressed at a major anti-vaccine conference held by the anti-vaccine group National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) that took place in Reston, Virginia in Oct. 2009.

Has Dr. Diane Harper Said HPV Vaccines is Great Scam?

In her addressal, Dr. Diane Harper did raise some concerns about both the HPV vaccines Gardasil and Cervarix, recommending that patients should be more informed about the risks associated with them, and advocated personal choice and an individualized approach to HPV vaccination. She expressed concerns as to how long protection from HPV vaccines such as Gardasil will last, and the extent of adverse effects the vaccines can cause in some people.

As such, these were not safety issues of the vaccines. The HPV vaccines, which were introduced in 2006, haven’t been long enough to make such claims; the long term efficacy is monitored by Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), a joint program operated by United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). As for the deaths reported, a study that probed into them found no common pattern suggesting that they were caused by the vaccine. About the serious adverse effects, Dr. Diane Harper talked about a study that reported them in 3.4/100,000 doses of vaccines distributed, which is relatively low. She in fact clarified this in an interview later. Apart from these concerns, as reported, Diane Harper never said that the HPV vaccines do not work, were not tested, or are dangerous. The video shown below explains the same.

The CDC continues to recommend Gardasil for girls and young women, saying the HPV vaccine’s benefits outweigh its risks and that it is an important tool in fighting the types of HPV infection that cause most cervical cancers (HPV types 16 and 18). Reports in 2013 in fact credit HPV Vaccine for fall of teenagers’ infection rate to half of what it was in recent years.
