A picture message doing rounds on WhatsApp and Twitter claims NIMS stands by findings of Patanjali Coronil trials, calling it a big win for Ayurveda. It also mentions the call to advertise it as Coronavirus Cure was of Patanjali, adding NIMS Chairman saying the medicine cured 100 percent of the test COVID-19 patients in 7 days. Association of NIMS with Patanjali & Coronil

The picture message in circulation is in fact a Twitter post of user Ashish Jaggi on 26th June 2020 sharing a video interview of the Dr. BS Tomar with India Today. The fact of the matter is – the trials for Patanjali’s Coronil were conducted under the supervision of same Dr. Balvir Singh Tomar. He is the founder of the NIMS University in Jaipur, Rajasthan – a self-financed institution. So, let us learn about the entire scenario of the Coronil Ayurvedic medicine, Patanjali presented as a cure for the novel strain of Coronavirus, COVID-19.

Launch of Coronil & CoronaKit

On 23rd June 2020, Yoga guru Ramdev Baba’s herbal medicine company Patanjali Ayurved launched the ‘Coronil and Swasari’ medicine in Haridwar. They claimed to have discovered the first Ayurvedic medicine cure for COVID-19, selling it in a CoronaKit. While launching its products Coronil and Swasari tablets, Patanjali said they helped 100% COVID-19 patients recover within seven days.

During the launch, Ramdev Baba announced Coronil contains Giloy, Tulsi and Ashwagandha herbs acting as good immunity boosters. The same day India’s Ministry of AYUSH released a statement to press saying they are unaware of the discovery.
