The story gained traction online after the YouTube channel Paranormal Crucible posted the story through a video on 28 December 2015. The description of the video said the remarkable artifact resembling a modern day cell phone was found by a team of archaeologists in Austrian state of Salzburg. The video description linked to an article on website mysteriousuniverse.org on 23 Dec. 2015, which said ‘Ancient Tablet Looks Like Cell Phone With Cuneiform Keys‘.
The sources say that not much detailed information about the artifact is available, and that they cannot be sure whether the archaeological discovery is just an odd coincidence, a hoax, or proof of time travel or alien contact. However, our search reveals that the image of the 800-year-old phone ‘artifact’ circulating online is an older one that seems to have first appeared in a YouTube video posted by user MEXICOGEEK on 7 March 2015 (shown in this article), with a title that translates to ‘Old Cellular Shaped Object’. Fact of the matter being, the user has been publishing too good to be true stories like discovery of huge Pyramid on Mars; all in – Entertainment Category.
About the Artifact
Lack of enough credible citation does not prove that the artifact in question is 800 years old and has been discovered by archaeologists in Austria. More importantly, a close look at the images of the purported ‘800-year-old mobile phone’ reveals that it is perhaps the mold of an Ericsson S868 mobile phone, on which someone could have added imitations of Cuneiform writing (see pictures in Image Gallery). Cuneiform is a system of writing first developed by the ancient Sumerians of Mesopotamia c. 3500-3000 BCE.
So the stories about Archaeologists’ discovery of ‘800-year-old mobile phone’ with cuneiform keys proving time travel is real or that it is a proof of alien contact are certainly hoaxes.
