Analysis:
Several pictures supposedly from Russia and footages like in the video claim to show that the historic monument in England, Stonehenge was actually constructed in 1954, and that people have been lied to about everything. Thankfully, it is not so.
About Stonehenge
Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England, situated about 2 miles west of Amesbury and 8 miles north of Salisbury. As shown in Images, Stonehenge is the remains of an amazing ring of standing stones set within earthworks, and has become one of the most famous sites in the world.
Dating
Archaeologists believe that the Stonehenge was built anywhere from 3000 BC to 2000 BC. Radiocarbon dating in 2008 suggested that the first stones were raised between 2400 and 2200 BC, while another theory proposed that bluestones may have been raised at the site as early as 3000 BC.
About Pictures
A large collection of the said pictures have been circulating in various websites since at least October 2012. However, like the 108 pics listed here, the author of the story is unknown (anonymous), and the website is a platform to share interesting news in photos with occasional funny pictures and jokes.
The orderly Stonehenge complex has been in substantial disarray, because of thousands of years of settling, weathering, and stone pilfering. What we see now is the result of several restoration (rehabilitation) projects carried out between 1901 and 1964 – to stabilize the leaning uprights and replace fallen stones. For example, the first picture above showing a big Crane is during a rehabilitation project at the site in 1958. The collapse of the southwest trilithon that fell in 1797 was also restored in 1958. Likewise, the main picture in story, as shown here, comes with a title “Re-Stonehenge, England, 1954 (translated)“.
Moreover, over centuries, from 1600s till 2008 (as of this writing), there were many excavations at the site in search of artifacts. Also note that there are few replicas of Stonehenge built elsewhere in world, like one in Maryhill, and another one in campus of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa.
To Conclude
What we are seeing in these stories are basically pictures taken in the aforementioned scenarios – restoration and excavations at the site, or that of replicas built elsewhere. Stonehenge was not built in 1954, nor in 1898 like it is said sometimes.
