Picture Showing Assassination of Mahatma Gandhi
Other Versions

2. Final moments of Mahatma Gandhi
Fact Check:
Couple of pictures in circulation online since long time claim to show scenes from the Assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, when Nathuram Godse shot him with Gun. Although many viewers believe in the stories with old, black and white photographs, they do not show actual killing of Mahatma Gandhi, but are stills from a movie.
Assassination of Mahatma Gandhi
On 30 January 1948, Hindu National Nathuram Godse shot and killed Mahatma Gandhi when he went to a massive prayer in the Birla House located in the Capital City of India.
As a matter of fact, the first picture showing ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ on ground as someone is dragged away is a still from the movie “Nine Hours to Rama” released in 1963. Likewise, the other popular picture allegedly showing Nathuram Godse (with Gun) and Mahatma Gandhi is again taken from the same movie. This picture was also shared heavily through emails. You can see those and other pictures from the movie above and below. Nine Hours to Rama is a British fictional narrative film showing the nine hours of Nathuram Godse’s life before he killed the legendary Mahatma Gandhi. You can see some stock photos from the movie on Alamy website alamy.com. While Horst Buchholz played the role of Nathuram Godse, J.S. Casshyap acted as Mahatma Gandhi.
So, the claims that the two photographs show assassination of Mahatma Gandhi are hoaxes. Notably, similar photographs from Indian movies on Mahatma Gandhi appear online with such false information.
