Name : Mr. Ramprasad B M
Age :64 years
Work History : served Mico ( now Bosch) company for 39 years , was the assistant finance manager in the finance department of the company. Now retired from job.
Currently : You will find him controlling and managing traffic at the 5th main cross road of the Arkere Layout near Bannergatta Road Bangalore.
He does this every day from morning 6 am to 10 am and evening 5:30 pm till 7:30 pm.
He is not employed as a traffice police officer by the goverment. He does this as a voluntary service to society last 5 years. He does this work every day without fail in all seasons for the society. He lives in 9th cross main road but he come from there every day morning to control the traffic and avoid jam.
We are happy and grateful for the service he does to the society – selflessly, without getting paid that too for last 5 years with a discipline of managing traffic everyday from 6 am. He stands constantly everyday and breathes the dust and pollution. When we asked him ” dont your legs pain? dont you feel exhausted and thirsty after constantly blowing the whistle? dont you get bored of doing this again and again everyday and that too for free ( i mean you are not even paid for it plus the people hardly bother to thank you for your service to the society). ?
He replied i do it because someone has to do it. My legs do pain, I do get breathing problem but if i don’t do then here it would be a huge traffic jam and road block. People wont reach office on time. I have done this last 5 years and no one cared. I can continue doing it till i am alive without bothering for people to care for my service. I hope the crossroad finds someone after me to manage the traffic.
The message claims that Mr. Ramprasad BM, a 64 years old retired employee of Bosch has been voluntarily managing the traffic near a cross road in Bangalore – daily, for the last 5 years. It is a fact.
Ram Chandra BM is the actual name of the inspiring old man. He is also called as Ramprasad B M by the shopkeepers near the traffic intersection point at Arekere layout, near Bannergatta road in Bangalore. He can be found managing the traffic every day from morning 6 am to 10 am and then in the evening from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, when the traffic is at its peak.

Ramprasad has been doing this social service for more than 6 years now, for nothing in return. His inspiring act was featured in Bangalore Mirror Newspaper. He became popular through his stories shared on Facebook. On 15th August 2012, the Independence Day for India, iVolunteer, a social enterprise working to promote volunteering for social development in India met Ramprasad and interviewed him.
In his interview, Ramprasad explains about his earlier life and the job he is currently doing for his society. When asked whether he does not get tired by doing the traffic controlling job at such an old age, Ram Chandra says that he does get tired. And at the end of the day, he relaxes himself with a massage of a homemade oil that he makes himself. He also mentions that he was a marathon walker in his young age. Ramprasad came first in a walk event for 55+ age group conducted by Karnataka Veteren Athletic Association in 2001-02, also first in South Zone championship meet for the same event in 1999. The video below shows the iVounteer interview with the inspiring volunteer Mr. Ramprasad B M.
Here is something unbelievable – Ramprasad has undergone a bypass heart surgery in 2008, had cataract operation in both eyes, and is also a diabetic patient who takes insulin daily. Inspite of all this, he still manages to give free service to the society – without expecting anything in return. For this selfless service he is doing to the society he is living in, he’s truly an inspiration to all the citizens.
