Analysis:
The messages show pictures of an American pit bull terrier dog laying dead beside a snake, claiming that the dog fought with the poisonous cobra to save his small owner and then died after killing the snake. The story is a fact, with some misinformation.
About the Incident
This incident happened on Feb. 12, 2007, in Barangay Lapasan, Philippines. The American Pit Bull Terrier named as “Chief” by the Fronteras household was watching TV along with the 87 year old woman, Liberata la Victoria. All of a sudden, the dog Chief jumped up from the sofa and alerted the old woman about the presence of a cobra snake less than 10 feet away. Maria Victoria, the granddaughter of the woman, rushed in at the spot and pulled her grandmother into a separate room, with a hope that the snake would leave. Note that Maria Victoria is a married woman, not a kid as mentioned in the story.
When Maria returned from the room, she was terrified to see the cobra just about two feet away from her. According to Maria, the cobra was also terrified of the moment and appeared as if it was ready to attack her. Maria screamed out loud asking for help, which is when the dog jumped in from nowhere and dashed between the cobra and the two women – acting like a shield against the cobra’s attacks. The dog then seized the cobra snake by the neck and killed it by slamming into the floor. But alas, the dog also sustained a fatal snake bite in the jaw and later collapsed, gasping for breath.
The Aftermath
The family soon took the injured dog to a veterinarian, but were told that nothing can be done, as the snake bite was too close to the dog’s brain, and the cobra’s venom had already spread. Maria Victoria called her husband Marlone, who rushed back home, and just after seeing his master, the dog finally let go. Ian de la Rama, a family friend of Fronteras, said that the last thing Chief did as he gazed up at Marlone was wag his tail.
Conclusion
As mentioned above, the American pit bull terrier dog, named Chief saved the two women from Cobra snake attack by fighting and killing it, also sacrificing its own life. The Chief is a great soul!
Dogs are loyal pets faithful to their masters. There are many incidents in the past to prove this, like Hachiko that waited 9 years for its dead master, and Capitan that has been sleeping on its owner’s grave since 6 years. The video above shows another dog that rescued the 4 year old kid of his master from a snake, and was later honored by RSPCA, the Royal Society for the Protection of Animals.
