Pranav Kalyan, born on 17th Jan 2003 in California, USA, is a 4th grade student of Willow Elementary School. He has passed the MCTS exam in ASP.NET Framework 3.5 on 12th Jan, 2013, at the age of 9. This way, the Indian origin boy created a world record by becoming the youngest Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS), the earlier record was held by Babar Iqbal, when he was 12 years old.

His Excellence

Pranav Kalyan started showing interest in computers at the early age of two. His father, Mohan talks about his son’s excellence saying he was more fascinated by computers than toys as a toddler, and that he started writing small software programs (in simple HTML) at the age of six. He also said that Pranav’s efficiency in mathematics (differential calculus and integral calculus) helped him write programs.

Pranav was exceptional in extra-curricular activities as well, he even won inter-school chess championships, twice in a row. For the record holding MCTS exam, Pranav prepared himself for 18 months, spending at least 8 hours a day on computer programming in his holidays. His father, Mohan who is also a computer programmer with the same certification mentored him successfully, along with the support of his colleagues. Pranav Kalyan is listed on Wikipedia’s List of Child Prodigies, under computer science category. For this world record feat, Pranav was featured in one of the Tamil News channels that you can watch in the reference section below. This 9 year old child prodigy is currently developing his own software for Windows called “P-studyware”, and is also building his own website. He aspires to pursue research in future and become a scientist.
