About the Alien Mummy Claims

The story about the discovery of an alien mummy has been around online in several versions, the currently popular one originated from an article on website Worldwide Science Stories worldwidesciencestories.com in March 2016. According to it, the mysterious alien creature was carefully mummified and had a perfectly preserved body that measured between 150 and 160 centimeters. It is said that the alien mummy was discovered by Dr. Victor Lubeck, Czech and retired professor from the University of Pennsylvania, when exploring a small pyramid near the Dynasty doceaba of Senusret II, Lahun, Egypt.

Actual Facts

The article on website Worldwide Science Stories stated that the remains of the alien created a lot of controversy in the world, but we did not find any mainstream coverage on it. A search for the professor Dr. Victor Lubeck in University of Pennsylvania did not yield any successful results. More importantly, our reverse image search has revealed that the photograph is in fact a photoshopped version of an old picture shown below. The original picture actually shows an exhibit at the Saint Louis Science Center entitled “Examination of a Child Mummy“. As you can clearly see, the facial features of the child mummy in the photograph have been edited to make it look like an alien.

The child mummy in the original photograph was donated to the Saint Louis Science Center in 1985 and was stored out of sight for the next 22 years before exhibiting it in 2007 for the first time. Before that the child mummy was acquired by a Hermann, Missouri dentist in the Middle East, and it ended up in an attic of some of his relatives. In later years, the mummy was studied with extensive modern techniques to find out the details of its origin. It was discovered that the mummified body measuring 60 cm (23.6 inches) tall was that of a boy, probably about 7 to 8 months old. Carbon dating suggested the baby boy lived between 30 B.C. and 130 A.D., in Egypt’s Roman period around the time of Mark Antony and Cleopatra. It was also suggested that the boy belonged to a European mother, and likely came from a wealthy family, as the mummy was wrapped in at least 8 layers of linen bandages. The cause of the child’s death, however, has not been determined, although it may have been caused by some childhood sickness.

So in short, the picture stories claiming to show an alien mummy was discovered in an Egyptian pyramid and that scientists were baffled to see it are hoaxes. The picture is simply a photoshopped version of an old mummy picture of a human child exhibited at the Saint Louis Science Center in Missouri, USA.
