Fact Check:

A ‘creepy’ video in wide circulation online alleges to show an Empty Wheelchair Ghost Moves on its Own in a Hospital of Chandigarh, India. It in fact shows an empty wheelchair parked outside the Hospital driveway moving suddenly and going down the pathway. Allegedly, it also scared the security guard who captured the video. The incident you see in the video is real, but it is not any Ghost on wheelchair.

Wheelchair Ghost Moves on its Own in Hospital?

The interesting video is doing rounds online with slightly different claims and went viral online because of the unusual ‘ghostly’ nature. The security camera footage was allegedly captured by the security guard Manoj Kumar at Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh. After seeing the ‘creepy’ incident, some viewers termed it as ‘Ghost Chair’. More importantly, the video in question seems to have originated from an article on newsflare website newsflare.com. The video carried a title – ‘Pushed by an invisible hand’ Ghostly wheelchair spooks hospital staff in north India – describing the unusual sight took place in the early hours of 19th September 2019.

Flaws with Claims

Firstly, newsflare is a platform that allows users to shoot a video story, tell the world and get paid. It carries ‘breaking news’ and ‘viral content’ not all of which are entirely accurate. The description of the footage mentioned a speculation among hospital staff that the wheelchair was moved by a ghost, which wanted to break out of the hospital. However, you can notice, there are some visible cuts in the video. Description of the footage mentions response of Manoj Kumar, one of the security team members on duty at the time.

One of us had gone for the rounds and another was inside. I came out to drink water and I saw the wheelchair moving on its own. It was just wind nothing else. I was also feeling very cold“.

The security worker fetched the wheelchair later and put it back. On the other hand, the video description also mentions response on the incident from a female doctor at the hospital. Accordingly, the wheelchair was pushed by wind (not any ghost) as it was parked in a partially uncovered area and rolled on the smooth floor before going out. Likewise, you can see in the video it’s clearly windy – the plants in surroundings are moving.

As a matter of fact, wheelchairs roll easily, which is why they are equipped with brakes to control. So, looks like the unbraked wheelchair is rolling away in wind outside the hospital; it is not any ghost on wheelchair.
