Several human skulls with horns protruding from them were discovered in a burial mound at Sayre, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, in the 1880′s. With the exception of the bony projections located about two inches above the eyebrows, the men whom these skeletons belonged to were anatomically normal, although at seven feet tall they were considered to be giants. Burial was believed to have been in the neighborhood of 1200 AD.

According to the story back in the 1880s, a burial mound was discovered near Sayre at a place called Spanish Hill. But instead of Indian bodies, W.K. Morehead, Dr. G.P. Donehoo and A.B. Skinner of Philadelphia’s American Investigating Museum dug out skeletons. They were reported to be seven feet tall with 4″ horns protruding from their brows. It was that of a 6 feet, 8 inches (202 centimeters) tall man, who would have been a ‘giant’ in third-century, where men were about 5 and a half feet (167 centimeters) tall on an average. Today’s tallest man, according to Guinness Records measures 8 feet, 3 inches (251 centimeters), and that is because he was suffering from the extremely rare condition of Gigantism, which generally begins in childhood, as a result of malfunctioning pituitary gland.

It should be understood that if “giants” double or even taller than normal humans really existed, then as per laws of biology, they will have to have proportional weight, but the cross sectional strength of their bones (which are claimed to have been discovered) would not be able to sustain them.

Other Claims

The article also talks about “Copper Man” mentioning the reputed Nature Journal, but that Nature article was in fact a review of a book about Gigantism and Acromegaly (associated with gigantism) that referred to the alleged discovery. It did not validate the discovery.

Most of the validated discoveries of tall skeletons of Gigantism like these were in fact wrongly attributed as ‘Giants’. Moreover, as you can read in the story, most of these strange and unbelievable discoveries are not preserved and documented, but lost in mysterious and unbelievable ways. But later, the Patagonian giants were considered to be hoax, or at least an exaggeration and mis-telling of earlier Europeans of the region.

These giant skeleton phenomenon is so popular that there often come up pranks around discovery of ordinary human skeletons. An example of it is this popular hoax, which said Giant Skeletons were found in Saudi Arabia. As far as the horned skulls in the story are concerned, some people considered them as tribal masks and that the horns were antlers. In any case, till date there is no scientifically validated evidence to prove that Giants existed on Earth!
