Analysis:
Stories with a video (in Malayalam) appearing online claim to show that Rev Devasia Mullakkara of Indian Kerala State cured a severe case of Psoriasis in a woman named Mini Johny in 15 days – only with the power healing of Prayers. It is said that the cured woman has been suffering from Psoriasis with severe inflammation since 12 years and was about to die. Let us analyze the authenticity of these miraculous claims.
About Devasia Mullakkara
Devasia Mullakkara is a retired teacher from Kerala, who is described as a Pentecost bible preacher, healing minister, prophet, and deliverance minister of this century. In his website devasiamullakkara.org, Devasia says that God is with him and he is praying for the sick and the suffering by propagating the Gospel. It is said that because of his prayers, healings and teachings, thousands of people got salvation, great miracles have happened and demons (Satan) were expelled. There are also these miraculous claims that Mullakkara Devasia healed and cured serious diseases like Psoriasis and Cancer. He built the Church of Eternity in the name of Athmabhishekam (self-anointing) International Ministries and also a hospital that supposedly treats poor and the needy.
Mini Johny’s Psoriasis Cured?
Devasia Mullakkara describes Mini Johny’s 12 years case of Psoriasis as a critical one, with serious inflammation in most part of her body; that she was totally sick with fever and doctors could not do anything. When she lost all hope on life, Mullakkara says Jesus healed her Psoriasis through him (his prayers) in just 15 days. However, there are certain aspects that raise doubts about authenticity of the miraculous claims.
Firstly, a close look at the above pictures of Mini Johny’s hands in Image Gallery shows that the Psoriasis inflammation appears somewhat unrealistic; hinting the possibility of ‘made up’ inflammation. Second aspect that raises doubts is the very clean hands of Mini Johny after the ‘prayer healing’ — without any signs/aftereffects of 12 years of severe Psoriasis. In third picture you can see some Psoriasis kind of inflammation over neck area of Mini Johny, which is lot less severe than that shown on her hands. Note that in the video, the neck region of her is not shown to have healed after Mini Johny is supposedly cured of severe Psoriasis. Even if it has healed, proper medications can certainly cure such less severe case of Psoriasis.
Other Claims
There are also other claims that Jesus through Devasia Mullakkara has healed patients suffering with Cancer, Paralysis, Broken legs, and few other health conditions. However, it should also be noted that no reputed doctors have validated these ‘miraculous’ claims. Significantly, there were hoax stories in the past, elsewhere in the world, that Faith Healings from Christian prayer groups healed Cancers, AIDS and Barren Wombs.
Other Controversies of Devasia Mullakkara
We have seen the programs organized by Devasia Mullakkara and his organizations seek donations and funds, also through their websites online; there are even claims that he has amassed lot of wealth illegally. Back in 2008, Archbishop George Valiamattam of Tellicherry called Devasia Mullakkara a lay retreat leader and expelled him from the Church for being unwilling to correct his anti-Catholic teaching. Then there was also a court case filed against his Chaithanya Aathmabhishekam Ashramam members for treating cruelly a 43 years old woman with some physic problem.
So all the aforementioned facts and flaws conclude to saying that Mullakkara Devasia’s healing and curing of Mini Johny’s Psoriasis only with Prayers is a hoax. The entire story appears to be staged. Misusing faith of people in God or religion in any way should never be encouraged and accepted.
