Analysis:
A picture widely spread over internet comes with a paranormal claim that dead people are rising from the grave and that the photograph shows a real walking corpse “awoken” by black magic in Indonesia. Thankfully, that’s not the case.

The photograph of the corpse of a woman pictured standing beside couple of people does not show a walking corpse “awoken” by any black magic, it is in fact a part of a death ritual in Tana Toraja called Ma’nene. Toraja are an ethnic group that live in the mountain ranges of South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Ma’nene or The Ceremony of Cleaning Corpses is a traditional death ritual where families exhume the bodies of their dead relatives to wash, groom and dress them in new clothes before they are taken around the province so that they can observe the living. See the pictures showing the same. In the front and backside of the picture in question you can see coffins full of layers of cloth, and needless to say the corpse of woman is held up straight by the man holding it, and perhaps also by the woman behind. The celebration ends as the corpses are kept in their cleaned coffins and returned to their graves. The Indonesian people usually follow the Ma’nene death ritual every few years, and they believe it is a means of paying respect to their ancestors.
