Analysis:

A video doing rounds online comes with a paranormal claim that a Time Traveler was spotted at a Mike Tyson fight, shooting with a latest Camera Phone back in 1995.

Origin of Claims

The claims in question seem to have originated from a YouTube video (shown in this article) published on 18 September 2015 in Comedy category. The description of the video mentioned that ‘someone in the crowd is seen taking a picture from what appears to a smart phone device, or a device way ahead of the 90’s,’ and also mentioned that he (the video uploader) is not sure if the person in the video is a time traveler or not, and that the camera model could not be explained. Conspiracy theorists added that the footage is the conclusive proof of time travel.

About the Fight and the Time Traveler Claims

As you can see in the complete video here, the boxing fight in question between Mike Tyson and Peter McNeeley was held in Las Vegas on 19th of August 1995. The poor resolution of the clip makes it difficult to determine precisely what the person was holding. But firstly, digital video technology was available in the 1995 period, and there were few cameras that looked similar in appearance to what the person in the video was holding. For example, it could be a model of Casio QV-10 CP camera that released in 1995 or a related model of Casio QV-100 in the same period (see pictures below). Moreover, the gap between 1995 and the introduction of the first camera phone technology was only a few years (first camera phone was available in market in the year 2000), so it also possible that someone attended the 1995 fight holding a camera phone years before the first consumer version became available to the market. Considering these cases, it is not that the person is holding a piece of technology ‘way ahead of time’. Earlier, another popular story online said that a 1500-year old Mummy discovered in Mongolia was wearing Adidas shoes and it is a proof of Time Travel.

So the claims that a Time Traveler was spotted at a Mike Tyson fight, shooting with a latest Camera Phone back in 1995 are hoaxes. The person in the video is certainly using a piece of technology that did exist in the period.
