Analysis:
A video in heavy circulation online since few years claims to show an alleged ‘Supernatural’ incident from Thailand, where a Girl shows Telekinetic powers after being asked to get off a bus by two men staff. Not only she thrashes the two boys at the bus stop with her ‘superpower’, she creates a havoc yelling and freaking out onlookers and nearby food vendors, while throwing away other objects. Let us analyze whether the paranormal incident shown in the video is hoax or fact.
Incident Portrayed in the Video
The conversations in the video appear to be in Thai language. After some passengers come out from the bus at a bus stop in Thailand, a girl starts dispute with the bus staff. When the dispute reaches to peak and one of the men staff of bus moves towards the girl with an intention to harm/hit her, another girl trying to hold and protect her puts her hand forward towards the men – and the result; they are thrown off floating in air. Then the girl, who seems to have been shocked by her own superpower, starts screaming as her powers freak out the onlookers and throws off nearby objects.
Flaws in the Video
Our study shows the video has been shared around internet space with various stories since at least November 2013. The YouTube video in this article (first one) listed in category ‘Film & Animation’ has its flaws. You can see in the video, the camera shooting the incident is in fixed position; it even zooms in and out on and around the girl and the surroundings to show the so called supernatural stuff, as if they already knew something was going to happen. The dispute conversation between the girls and the bus staff raises doubts if it is scripted and staged, considering the fact that the men staff actually wait for the girl to complete her dialogues before they react (or act). The onlookers around too do not react much to the men being thrashed away, unless the girl starts screaming. Then there is a man behind the tree doing something around the table that fell off after the girl starts screaming.
Similar Video in Past
Shown in the second video is ‘Telekinetic Coffee Shop Surprise’ that appeared online in October 2013. It shows how, very similar to the current supernatural incident in question, a girl in dispute with a man in coffee shop knocks him off over a wall by simply showing her hand at him. It was in fact a hidden camera experiment to capture the reactions of unsuspecting customers at a New York City coffee shop as they witness a telekinetic event. You can see in the second video, the incidents were all staged and the so called telekinetic events were remote controlled. The coffee shop prank was a viral video meant to promote the 2013 horror movie Carrie.
Considering the aforementioned facts, the current video too could be a marketing campaign for the remake of Carrie movie or a prank done by a group of people who seem to have invested good amount of money on the staged public demonstration. So the video showing a girl thrashing two boys with her superpowers at a bus stop in Thailand is certainly a hoax.
