A picture in circulation online since few years purports to show that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Bowed Down in Front of Mrs Adani. Gautam Adani is an Indian industrialist, the Chairman and founder of Adani Group. Other versions of the message claim to point the Prime Minister Narendra Modi bends like that in front of wealthy people who are not a part of Government in anyway. The picture does indeed show the Indian PM bowing down with ‘namaste’ in salutation to a woman in royal attire. But as explained below, the claim that Modi bowed down in front of Mrs Adani is not true.

Has Modi Bowed Down in Front of Mrs Adani?

In the first place, these picture messages are circulating online for long time, in various Indian languages. They keep surfacing again, seeming to suggest PM Narendra Modi can bend so well in front of wealthy people. The context of the picture, however, is something totally different. As told in the messages, the woman in the picture is not Priti Adani, the wife of businessman Gautam Adani. The picture in fact shows PM Narendra Modi greeting Ms. Geetha Rudresh, ex-Mayor of Tumkur City Corporation, Karnataka.

The incident took place back on 24th September 2014, when PM Modi landed in Tumkur to inaugurate a mega Food Park at the Vasanthanarsapura, 90 km from Bangalore. The then Mayor Geetha Rudresh welcomed PM Modi and he responded with dignified greeting to the woman. Therefore, the picture messages claiming to show PM Narendra Modi bowed down in front of Mrs Adani are just hoaxes.
