Fact Check:

A video and message viral on Facebook and other social media places purports to show Ramkishore Saini, a BJP Candidate Beaten Badly in Public. It says the people got tired and sought to beating the BJP candidate from Rajasthan’s Bandikui Dausa. The message also raises a public alarm questioning what the people will do on the day of voting. The footage in the video is real, but as explained below, its description message is not true.

About the Video

In Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Election of 2018, BJP’s Ramkishore Saini is locking horns with Congress challenger GR Khatana from Bandikui. The voting poll is on 7th December. However, on 27th November 2018 Facebook user Shahid Hussain, working for Indian Youth Congress (according to his profile information) shared the video message in question.

As a matter of fact, the video seems to show a political party meeting, where a scuffle breaks out among workers. As it turns violent, some of them beat up and thrash the man dressed in white kurta pajama. More importantly, the man does not appear like Ramkishore Saini (see his picture below). Nonetheless, because of the disturbing nature of the incident, the video and message were shared heavily amidst the political-election scenario in India.

Not BJP Candidate Beaten Badly in Public

India Today found the man beaten in the video is not BJP candidate Ramkishore Saini, but Vishwanath Saini, a late Congress worker from Dausa district of Rajasthan. The scuffle took place back in October 2015 in Hotel Rawat Palace, during a Congress party meeting. When Mahesh Badal started speaking on mike, some of the party workers went on to thrash Vishwanath Saini alleging he is disloyal to the party. Shown below is a Hindi news report of the incident from Rajasthan.

So, the claim that the video shows Ramkishore Saini, a BJP candidate beaten badly in public is a hoax. It appears like one of those fake news stories created for social media circulation. For your information, the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Om Prakash Rawat has said fake news (and paid news) affects voting behavior in a big way.

Hoax or Fact:

Hoax.
