Story:
Study Finds 1 in 3 Americans Have been implanted with RFID chips: Most unaware.
Analysis:
The message circulating online as a news report claims that 1 in 3 Americans have been implanted with RFID (Radio-frequency identification) chips and most of them are unaware of it. According to the report, the RFID chips are often implanted during dental work. Is the report a fact? Not really.
The news-like report originated from an article published on NationalReport.net on 8 June 2014 with the same title. As an evidence to their claim of secret RFID implantation, the report mentions a recent study from the ‘Wyoming Institute of Technology’ (WitScience.org) that was reported on the same day.
Wyoming Institute of Technology
Firstly, the said Wyoming Institute of Technology is not real; its website is a satirical publication that comes with a scientific theme. Their website URL WitScience.org perhaps indicates the same. There is no Wyoming Institute of Technology. There is, however, WyoTech, which was formerly known as Wyoming Technical Institute. The website under the name of Wyoming Institute of Technology publishes various hoax reports like Health Spa to be built at Northern tip of Antarctica and Selfies linked to Brain Cancer.
National Report
Coming to the National Report, again, it is another satirical publication that presents itself as regular news reporter and is known to publish several, outrageous fake news stories. The website had a disclaimer earlier (which is now removed) that said the views expressed by writers on their site are personal and that the advice given is not to be construed as professional. In past, they published stories like Mutated Fukushima Giant Hornets are responsible for multiple Nebraska casualties and Fukushima disaster leaves hundreds of Whales radiated to death.
To conclude, the claims that 1 in 3 Americans have been secretly implanted with RFID chips are hoax; they originated from a satirical publication.
Hoax or Fact:
