Jihadi Ilhan Omar at a Terrorist Training Camp!
Omar said she hates guns!!!
1. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) was photographed at a training camp for al Qaeda.
2. Picture Show U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar in ‘Jihad Academy’
A picture message is popular online purporting to show U.S. Congresswoman from Minnesota, Ilhan Omar at a Training Camp for Terrorists. No, the claim is not true – the woman in the photograph is not the U.S. representative Ilhan Omar.
Not Ilhan Omar in Terrorist Training
Ilhan Omar is an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Minnesota’s 5th Congressional district since 2019. She is a Somali-American and the first Muslim-refugee elected to U.S. Congress. In past, a Republican state Senator from Minnesota shared the claim on Facebook along with the photograph. The message described showing the ‘Congresswoman at an Al’ Qaida training camp in Somalia‘. It also said she is trying to block the picture.
The Associated Press photo is an old one from a military training campus in Halane, Mogadishu back in 1978. On the other hand, the U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar was born four years later in 1982. The woman in the picture is not Ilhan Omar. The full picture rather shows the woman looking like Ilhan Omar wearing a headdress and a uniform featuring a white belt. The woman is in fact a recruit of the Somali Army checking her automatic weapon at the military training campus on 25th Feb. 1978. On the right is her instructor.
The Associated Press website apnews.com clarified the matter about the photograph back in August 2019 itself. However, the false claims keep surfacing again. Responding to the claims on Twitter in October 2019, Ilhan Omar called it pure propaganda designed to stir up hate and violence, coming from a GOP state rep.
There’s another popular short clipping from an interview of Ilhan Omar, where she is shown to accept she took ‘Terrorism Class’. Then again, the claims are misleading.
The short clipping comes from a 25-minute 2013 interview after the terrorist attack at a mall in Kenya. Ilhan Omar was not in politics then. The interview appeared on Minnesota’s Arab-American TV show “Belahdan” to discuss how Muslims are often called upon to speak out after an attack carried out by an Islamic terrorist. In the interview, Omar said it does not make sense for her to feel as if she’s required to explain “these heinous acts.”
During the interview, she talks about her time at college and says, “When I was in college, I took a terrorism class…” The interviewer laughs and asks if there was such a thing and questions if there was a lab for that with field trips. “No, we learned the ideology,” she replies laughing. Omar attended North Dakota State University and studied political science and international relations.
