Analysis:

According to stories in wide circulation online, construction workers in Brazil discovered a Giant Anaconda Snake measuring 33-feet (10 meters) long, weighing 400 Kilograms and one meter in diameter; thought to be the largest snake ever. Few pictures of the alleged massive snake are shown along with a brief footage of the same tied on a crane. So let us analyze the authenticity of the claims, whether or not they are facts.

Origin of Stories

On 1 February 2016 YouTube user Alexandre Flores published the video shown above that shows couple of pictures of large snake lifted by a crane followed by the footage of alleged snake discovered after an explosion was carried out in the Cave of Altamira located in the Brazilian state of Pará. It is said that the video was recorded by the construction workers, who chained the anaconda to a crane and later lifted it up to show onlookers. The video and the story was later shared by Weird Animals, and further got published in many news outlets along with social media sites like Facebook.

Unrelated Pictures and Video

The first picture of large snake being held up by a crane in forest is certainly different from what is shown further in the video. The second picture (shown in the video) and also the third one that of a bulky snake are in fact old, popular pictures seen online. Back on 30 Nov. 2014 an article on blog Diário do Nordeste (taken down later) reported the story in question along with the two pictures, saying the construction workers released them contrary to the company’s orders to hide the fact. Back then the photos also circulated on WhatsApp with a story saying the 8 meters huge snake was captured by workers on the Madeira River.

For the revelation, the second picture of bulky snake in the video and the third one show a different snake than what is shown in the following footage. Like a user of Outer Space forum, Lava Maligna pointed, the Anaconda snake in the video was seen on the BR-163 Mato Grosso highway in Brazil in September 2015. Notably, the snake measured seven meters in length (not 10 m) and was believed to be hit by truck, crushed head and died. Staff at West route put the snake on a tow truck and referred to the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) for study. You can see the snake in full in couple of pictures below.

To conclude, the 7-meter large snake found dead on a highway that actually appears on a tow truck was not 10 m long or weighed 400 Kg, it wasn’t found by any construction workers who killed it in an explosion site in Brazil. The hoax story is fabricated using unrelated pictures of large snakes and a video. So that does not make the snake largest/biggest ever. According to Guinness Book of World Records, the longest snake – ever (captivity) is Medusa, a reticulated python that measured 7.67 m (25 ft 2 in) long on 12 October 2011.
