Analysis:

The video shown has been circulating in several copies on YouTube since 2012. The messages that come with these videos claim to show a real Mermaid almost caught by Fishermen, and that it is the footage from an amateur cam published by Animal Planet Project. Yes, the video was originally aired by Animal Planet, but what is claimed is not a fact!

The video in question was actually shared on 10 May 2012 by website AnimalPlanet.com, with a title “Fishermen Catch Man in Nets?,” the description of which is given below:

Fishermen in rough waters document a strange catch in the nets… something that looks like a man but doesn’t seem human. Tune in for the world premiere of Mermaids: The Body Found, Sunday May 27, at 9PM E/P.

This is suggestive of the fact that the video is a part of promoting Animal Planet’s TV show ‘Mermaids: The Body Found‘ that was premiered in 2012. Animal Planet has in the past come up with several ‘evidences’ of mermaids like this that are not real, but are actually docu-fiction. These documentary fictional videos of mermaids are often misinterpreted as real and shared online.

As for the existence of mermaids is concerned, the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says that no evidence of these aquatic humanoids has ever been found. Nonetheless, similar and many other stories about mermaid sightings keep appearing online.

Hoax or Fact:
