A video clipping claims to show that during a speech, U.S. President Barack Obama admitted that his wife Michelle Obama is a Transexual Man named “Michael,” suggesting she is a biological male posing as a woman. The claims are not true.

About the Footage

The video (first one in this article) in question has been widely shared online since late 2014. As can be seen in the subtitles of the footage, it is indeed Barack Obama addressing at the Chairman Transition Ceremony of Joint Chiefs of Staff at Fort Myer, Virginia, that took place on 30 September 2011. It was when Michael Mullen officially retired from the military after his term as Chairman ended. Like you can see in the second video, during the speech, President Obama made some remarks about Michael Mullen, a text transcript of which is also given below:

“Distinguished guests, men and women of the finest military in the world, Most of all, Admiral Mullen, Deborah (Admiral Mullen’s wife), Michael, and I also want to also acknowledge your son Jack, who’s deployed today. All of you have performed extraordinary service to our country.”

Stories that spread online said that in his speech, Barack Obama was referring as ‘Michael’ (some say ‘Mike’) to his wife ‘Michelle,’ suggesting she is a transexual man, who changed sex from man to woman medically. These claims also garnered momentum because there has been this conspiracy theory that the first lady of the United States of America is in fact a man named Michael LaVaughn Robinson.

On 30 June 2011, in an article on christwire.org, blogger Matthew Glosser said that he was contacted by “an anonymous source” who claimed to be a former White House staff member of the Obama administration, and said that Michelle Obama was born Michael LaVaughn Robinson (male) in Chicago, Illinois on 17th January 1964. Accordingly, Michelle (Michael) is the second son of Fraser Robinson III, a popular cocaine dealer and Marian Shields Robinson, who was once street prostitute diagnosed with the HIV virus in 1998. It is said that he (Michael) was a popular high school athlete who dropped out of the school suddenly and then underwent sex reassignment surgery on 13th January 1983 at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Further, it is said that he changed his new legal name to “Michelle Robinson,” and after some years, he met Barry Obama Jr. (Barack Obama), a Kenyan immigrant who later came to know “Michelle’s” true identity. They are said to be married subsequently and adopted two children.

Facts

Firstly, as can be understood from the second video and the context of the Obama speech, he was in fact referring to Michael Mullen, who was retiring from the Chairman post of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In his further speech, Obama did refer as “Mike,” but again, it wasn’t Michelle; Mike was the nickname of Michael Mullen. There was no mention of Michelle Obama during the Obama speech; he did not say or suggest that his wife Michelle was a transgender man.

Regarding the aforementioned conspiracy theory, there is no proof that a man named Michael LaVaughn Robinson with the said description and background actually existed. If the claims of the ‘anonymous source’ are really true, the person could have easily approached any major news outlet instead of the ChristWire. Moreover, any DNA sample left behind by Michelle Obama can be obtained with not much effort and tested for gender, because sexual change operation would not change someone’s DNA.

To conclude, Obama did not admit that his wife is a transexual man named “Michael” in his speech, he was simply referring to another man Michael Mullen, who was retiring from the Chairman post of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 2011. Stories that Michelle Obama is a transgender man often appear online, perhaps because she is more masculine looking than her husband Barack Obama.
