About Abhinandan Varthaman

Abhinandan Varthaman is the Indian Air Force wing-commander who was captured in Pakistan during 2019 India-Pakistan standoff that resulted after terrorist attack in Pulwama district, Jammu and Kashmir. On 27th February, some Pakistani aircraft intruded into Jammu and Kashmir after Indian armed forces shut down some terror outlets in Pakistan. Abhinandan, flying a MiG-21, shot down an F-16 aircraft of Pakistan Air Force before he was struck by a missile. Abhinandan ejected from the aircraft and landed in a Pakistani village. A violent local mob manhandled Abhinandan and later Pakistani soldiers rescued him. Pakistan held him for three days under captivity before releasing him into India, after pressure from India and other countries.
