Analysis:
A picture making rounds online, especially on social networking sites, claims to show a cute and very dark little baby which is said to be the world’s darkest baby. Other versions of the story say it is the world’s blackest baby recently born in South Africa, and also come with another picture suggesting to show the grown up version of the baby seen in a hospital with a medical official (picture above). No, the claims are not facts.
The photograph of the ‘world’s darkest baby’ grabbed the attention of many people and soon went viral online; some even going far to say that the child’s name was also registered in the Guinness Book of World Records. However, few people were quick to notice the intense black skin and complete black eyes (without much white area) of the ‘darkest baby’ suggest it could be a Doll, and as a matter of fact, they are indeed right. Seen in the picture is actually a Polymer Clay Sculpture created by artist Lilah Pearsons. You can see many such creations of human babies and Monkeys on her Pinterest.com page (some shown below as well) and her ‘Breath of Heaven OOAK Dolls’ website breathofheavenooakdolls.com. So the picture of the darkest/blackest baby in the world does not show a real baby; it is a doll created by an artist. The other picture of grown up baby is real though, but it dates back to 1962 and shows an African child in Tanzania, being taken care by Peace Corps.
